I’m as unhappy as Joan Gibbard (Stock Answer letter, Adver 7 Oct) that the council makes it seem as if the transfer is “done and dusted”, but she is mistaken. The officers she refers to sit on a “shadow board”. It could only become the board of a housing association if tenants vote Yes to transfer. If they vote No then there would be no housing association.
The statutory guidance from the Department of Communities and Local Government states clearly that “A majority vote against transfer would mean that transfer cannot proceed”.
Only tenants get to vote, so Joan’s and all other tenants’ votes are very important. If a majority of tenants vote against transfer we would stay as council tenants. It is our decision.

Does the ballot call for a majority of all tenants or a majority of those who voted? I wish the council would stop playing with words and give some straight honest answers. Politics at its worst

It will be a straight majority of those who vote Marcus. Just like a local election.
